Whole Person Mental Health from Pre-Conception into Parenthood

A Reproductive Mental Health Master Class

the training i wanted when i began my

reproductive mental health practice.

Course Overview:

Duration: 3 Days | Format: Live & Interactive | CE Credits: 21

This immersive three-day training provides a deep dive into the complexities of perinatal mental health, equipping professionals with the knowledge and tools to support diverse populations through the reproductive and postpartum periods. Attendees will explore the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors influencing perinatal mental health, examining conditions such as PMADs, trauma, reproductive loss, birth complications, and peripartum sexual health from a trauma-informed lens.

The course incorporates interactive discussions, case analyses, and hands-on exercises, allowing participants to develop culturally responsive, evidence-based interventions. A critical focus will be placed on historical and systemic disparities, reproductive justice, and the evolving sociopolitical climate impacting perinatal care.

Our psychopharmacology overview presentation will be led by guest prescriber Dr. Rachel Shmuts. DO, PMH-C.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Assess the impact of trauma, medical mistrust, and sociopolitical factors on perinatal mental health.

  • Identify and differentiate PMADs, reproductive grief, and trauma-related disorders.

  • Apply culturally competent, trauma-informed therapeutic techniques tailored to perinatal populations.

  • Utilize screening and assessment tools effectively for early diagnosis and intervention.

  • Navigate challenges related to infertility, pregnancy loss, and obstetric violence.

  • Explore reproductive mental healthcare within a post-Roe legal landscape.

  • Address postpartum sexual health concerns and facilitate comprehensive postpartum planning.

Through a multidisciplinary lens, participants will leave with a robust framework for integrating perinatal mental health care into their clinical practice, ensuring they provide informed, ethical, and inclusive support to birthing individuals and families.

This course aligns with the Postpartum Support International (PSI) Certification Exam Blueprint, providing a solid foundation for those preparing to sit for the exam. By the end of the training, attendees will be equipped to implement best practices in perinatal mental healthcare and advocate for systemic improvements to support birthing individuals and families.

PSI Status Update 07/2025: This course is scheduling a pilot launch event with preliminary approval as a foundational course by Postpartum Support International (PSI). Upon completion of the pilot, Postpartum Support International’s Certification Team will render a final approval decision.

The PSI status of this course does not impact CE approval which is pending.
